Maintaining your Home’s Value

Maintaining Your Home’s Value

Your home is probably the largest investment you will make in your lifetime. Maintain your home’s safety and value for years to come with these helpful tips:

1. Inspect it once a month for infestations like birds, rodents or insects
2. Check it routinely for rust, mold, rot or water damage and repair quickly before further, more expensive damage occurs
3. Maintain healthy landscaping, including pruning tree branches, weeding and preventing overgrowth that could damage the windows and siding of your home
4. Re-roof, repair and maintain the singles on your roof to protect the inside of your home from weather damage
5. Check fire and carbon monoxide alarms often and change the batteries yearly; keep an all-purpose fire extinguisher on hand for emergencies and be aware of the expiration date and pressure
6. Clean out gutters full of leaves and twigs, and make sure gutters drain away from the foundation of the home
7. Regularly clean fireplaces, wood stoves and chimneys to reduce carbon monoxide in the home and the chance of fire
8. Inspect the ventilation systems in the attic for debris or damage
9. Check weather stripping on windows and doors and repair as needed
10. Have your septic tank inspected and serviced
